The 21st Monarca Paragliding Open has come to an end, with 127 pilots from 17 countries, 6 out of 6 tasks successfully flown from 61km to 90km and with an average of 65 pilots in goal every day.
Monarca’s organizer Miguel Gutierrez reports:
“This year, El Peñón, Temascaltepec provided excellent race conditions, characterized by typical convergence flying conditions. The perfect cloud bases painted the paths, creating an ideal environment for the race.
At just 19 years old, Mexican pilot Andres Tello claimed victory in the overall category with a display of clever and consistent flying. He was followed by another young star, British pilot Dylan Masley who finished second, while Pete Thompson from the USA secured third place. All flying Enzo 3s.
In the women’s category, Violeta Jimenez from the USA claimed the Monarca title for the second consecutive year. She finished ahead of Jenny O’Neal (also from the USA). Both pilots flew Enzo 3s. Meanwhile, promising Mexican pilot Pamela Diez secured third place on a Zeno 2.
Special thanks to Ozone for their dedicated support over the years. We also extend our gratitude to the Cloudbase Foundation and Alas del Hombre, who together raised $10,000 USD from pilot donations. These funds will benefit 170 children at the local elementary school in La Albarrada, the community that hosts the El Peñón launch site.”
Congrats to all the pilots and cheers from all the Ozone team!
