The Pyrenees Open Hike & Fly wrapped up its third edition from 4 to 7 June, delivering a competition defined by elite athletic performances and a grueling route.
The action kicked off with a prologue task, offering a 1-hour 30-minute "Night Pass" bonus to the top three finishers. This opening task also featured a spectacular twist: the final waypoint was hidden right in the centre of the Pyrenees Labyrinth.
At 10:00 on Friday, 33 pilots from all over the world hit the start line. Followed closely by their support crews, they tackled a demanding 197-kilometre route across the Pyrenees. Pelopín, Ezkaurre, Pico Las Blancas, Oturia and Monte Perdido marked the waypoints for a course starting and finishing in Panticosa—a massive challenge where team strategy proved key.
In the overall standings, French pilots swept the podium. Téo Bouvard claimed victory in this third edition, completing the course in 12 hours after covering 10.6 kilometres on foot and 186.40 kilometres in the air with his Zeolite GT. The podium was completed by his compatriots Erwan Valais, also flying a Zeolite GT, and Benjamin Gaudry.
Francesca Mugianesi dominated the women's field with her Zeolite 2 and Sublite, securing 18th position overall.
Alongside the international ranking, the Pyrenees Open Hike & Fly crowned the new Spanish Champions of the discipline, with Andreu Moreno taking second place at the controls of his Zeolite GT.
The event once again highlighted the sheer complexity of hike & fly. In this discipline, technical skill and physical endurance aren't enough—strategy, reading the weather and terrain knowledge can make all the difference.
David Polo, the race director, noted at the close of the event: "This third edition of the Pyrenees Open threw some truly harsh, pure Pyrenean weather conditions at us—something we hadn't experienced until now. This allowed us to set a much more ambitious task than in previous years, featuring an incredibly high level of competition and some of the world's top international pilots."
