On January 29th 2006 a unique and adventurous XC Competition will begin in the Caribbean Sea, on the island of the Dominican Republic.
The Ozone Caribbean XC Challenge will not be a normal XC Comp. There will be no tasks, no goal lines, no start windows, just XC flying on a Caribbean Island! This comp will be an open format distance competition, and each pilot will be allowed to choose their own route as they fly. Competitors will arrive at takeoff and decide when to launch, which direction to fly, and where to land. Advice and coaching will be given by advanced pilots to those interested, and there will be plenty of guidance and support from the organization and from the advanced pilots attending in order to help you maximize the fun and safety of each distance flight.
Among the top pilots providing XC advice and guidance during the competition will be Jocky Sanderson and members of the Ozone Test team.
This event is being organized by Caribbean Free Flying. Following the success of the 2004 Pre-World Cup in the Dominican Republic, Caribbean Free Flying is once again bringing you a unique opportunity to come and fly in awesome scenery with the perfect excuse: a fun paragliding XC competition designed for expert to novice cross country pilots, sponsored by Ozone Gliders.
There will be very few rules and plenty of freedom in this comp. We believe that this format allows competitors to make the best out of the flying conditions for any given day, and encourages them to fly at their own pace and within the safety margins of their skill.
The comp starts the 29th of January 2006, for a whole week of the best XC flying around Valle de San Juan. Transportation and accommodation are included in the registration fee as well as breakfast, packed lunches, and much more! There will be 5 categories according to the homologation of the glider you're flying so that everyone has a real chance to win, and prizes will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd in each of the five categories! Prizes include Ozone harnesses and kites and an Ozone paraglider that will be given away in a raffle for the competitors!
You will find all the info regarding the event on www.CaribbeanXC.com
Registration is open and the number of competitors is limited to 80 so begin planning your winter flying trip now!
