The Paragliding World Cup in Pico Do Gaviao, Brazil, starts tomorrow. The PWC reports:
"This is the first World Cup to be held at Pico Do Gaviao. Everyone here is really eager to try this new site, although due to its proximity to Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, it’s no secret to the Brazilian flying community.A lot of top Brazilian pilots are here, including four of the World’s big distance record holders. They are flying on their home turf looking for a Super Final place following the success of the 2016 Brazilian Super Final.
Looking through the competitor list, at least 40 pilots here are contenders for a Super Final place. They’re all desperate to get one of only 15 automatic selection places available from this competition.Ten pilots here who have already qualified for the Super Final, along with five previous World Cup winners in the line-up, reflect the extremely high pilot quality in this prestigious competition.
‘Often far flung legs are an easy way to get into the Super Final. That is so not going to be the case here, this is going to be a battle royal’, Ulric Jessop Paragliding World Cup Technical Delegate.
With a great forecast and similar topography but stronger conditions to the Super Final in Governador Valadares, this is going to be an amazing competition. The sun is shining, everyone is smiling and really looking forward to getting their wings in the air and seeing the goal line beneath their feet"
