A big congratulations to Christophe Burger, who took first place overall flying his Ozone Delta 2! Stefan Bernhard came in just behind him flying his Mantra M4, and took 2nd place overall. We'd like to send out a sincere thank you to all of the pilots who joined us for this event, which is so dear to our hearts. We love the fun and friendly ambiance and the environment of learning which has pervaded every one of the Ozone Chabre events so far. This was the 8th Ozone Chabre and by all accounts it was a great success, with a few classic XC days and a lot of happy pilots in goal. For the task reports, click here. In this year's event, there were around 30 competitors who had never flown in a competition before, and at least 30 goal virgins in the first two days. There were 4 tasks flown: 38.2km, 46.5km, 42.7km and 49km. The Ozone Chabre Open is not just a great place to experience your first competition, it's also an excellent opportunity to take your XC flying to the next level. With a moderate task each day, and specific instruction and guidance from renowned pro pilots (such as Jockey Sanderson), and on top of all that a nice gaggle of gliders to mark the thermals, it is an ideal environment to learn to fly XC safely and efficiently. At the end of each day, Jocky runs a task debriefing and the most ideal and sometimes not so ideal routes are dissected and analyzed. Many pilots come away from the event with personal best XC flights, and significant improvement in their flying - not to mention a couple of parties featuring free food and drinks, and the chance to win a free Ozone wing of your choice! Thursday July 4: So far this week 3 fun tasks have been held at the Ozone Chabre Open, with a large number of "personal bests" amongst the pilots in the event. The mission of the Ozone Chabre Open is to create a fun and friendly environment for intermediate pilots to learn about XC competition. Tasks are created to be challenging but fun, and to hopefully bring around 50% of the pilots to goal. So far this year around 40 pilots have "made goal" for the first time in their careers. On the 2nd day a 50km task was set (that's about the same distance of some tasks during the PWC France during the week previous) and 70 happy pilots made goal. We've always loved this event and we're very happy to see the smiles on the faces of pilots at the end of the day (in goal or not, it's about enjoying the course!), and we look forward to seeing the final result on Saturday.
