Setting off in the early hours of June 18 morning from the iconic Chamonix church, French athlete Iris Pessey shattered the women's ascent record on the roof of Europe. Leaving at 3:30 AM, she tackled the gruelling climb to the 4,806-metre summit of Mont Blanc in 5 hours and 2 minutes, shaving a full ten minutes off the previous record. The crisp alpine air and steep skyrunning ridges set the perfect scene for an immense physical effort, capped off with a transition into a morning flight straight back down to the Chamonix valley.
Moving seamlessly from her background in biathlon and mountain running to alpine flight, Iris continues to redefine versatility in the high mountains. After conquering the climb, she laid out her Ultralite 5 at the summit to glide effortlessly back down. The entire round trip, tracked every single metre of the way, took just 5 hours and 34 minutes. Upon landing, her focus wasn't on the clock; instead, she felt overwhelming relief and immense gratitude towards everyone who supported the project. Reflecting on the record, she mentioned that: "this adventure was never an individual story: it has always been a shared adventure."
Congratulations Iris and cheers from all the Ozone team!
