The Cornizzolo Cup Italian Open 2016 held on Mt. Cornizozolo has come to a close after five valid tasks. Giorgio Sabbioni sent the following report and photos: Every task was technical, with mixed flying among flatlands and mountain ridges and varied options and lines to fly. For the first four days, Nicola Donini, the youngest pilot in the comp and son of the legendary Italian pilot Luca Donini, led the field. The final task of 72km was very technical and fast - there were two different lines to choose from: a straight and risky line in flatlands and an easier but slower line along the ridge. Almost all of the pilots went for the flatlands pushing from beginning to end to reach the podium as at this point there were several pilots with the chance to reach a high ranking in the event. At the end the final result was… familiar. The Italian title went to both Luca Donini and his son Nicola Donini, after tying with an overall score of 3574 pts! Both were flying Enzo 2s and neither of them are new to the podium. Luca is a former World and European Champion and Nicola won the Italian championship in 2013 when he was only 17. The only new thing for the Doninis is to share the top step of the podium, and now Italy has two champions from the same family. Third on the podium was Aaron Durogati, Joachim Oberhauser was 4th, and our own Luc Armant was 5th. In the top 10, 9 pilots flew Enzo 2s. Nao Takada, from Japan, took the overall female title flying her M6, followed by the Venezuelan Joanna di Grigoli and the Italian Silvia Buzzi Ferraris flying the M6. With this result, Silvia, who flew with a light fracture on her shoulder, won the Italian women’s title for her 10th time! Congrats to all the pilots and cheers from all the team at Ozone!
