*The LM5 is currently manufactured by special request only for pilots who are seeking the absolute lightest option in this class of wing.
The LM5 is our newest lightweight high performance paraglider designed for expert pilots who are on the cutting edge of vol-biv adventure flying. The LM5 was developed specifically for the pilots in the Red Bull X-Alps race, and in the 2013 event LM5 pilots swept the podium and filled all top 5 places in the race.
By combining cutting edge design technology recently gained from the OZONE Performance Project and the Mantra R series of wings (R11, R12, EnZo) and over a decade of ultra-light paraglider construction and material research, we have created a wing that is meant to satisfy the needs of the world’s top pilots while flying in the most extreme race in paragliding.
After 10 years of designing wings for pilots in the X-Alps race, our commitment to lightweight equipment development is stronger than ever. Through an intensive optimisation process which saves micrograms at over one thousand control points in the wing’s design, weight has been reduced to a minimum without compromising the strength and safety of the wing. The LM5 has full EN D flight and load test certification.
During the development process we tested many prototypes with 2 line, 3 line, and 2/3 line hybrid configurations, but in the end we chose a design that we think is the ultimate in 3 line technology. With a tight, crisp, agile feel in the air and performance that rivals the very best competition wings, the LM5 is built to carry you through the most demanding of flyable conditions.
With OZONE SharkNose technology, advanced leading edge reinforcement, and a pitch stable profile, the LM5 contains all of the features that have made the modern OZONE range renowned for stability and comfort. An aspect ratio of 6.9 offers a balance of performance and manageability, and a highly refined internal tension lends a tight and compact feel across the span of the wing, even in turbulent conditions. This coordinated feel, combined with an ideal aspect ratio, translates to superb climbing characteristics and high efficiency during turbulent glides.
The LM5 profile is a hybrid design combining the best features of the SharkNose Technology with the fun and efficiency of the Delta 2. It is solid at accelerated speeds, and extremely resistant to spin and stall. The shark profile provides a more constant internal pressure in active air and turbulence, increasing passive stability (collapse resistance) and creating an even more comfortable and stable feel in accelerated flight. This new advanced profile has also improved the launch behaviour by reducing “shooting” in higher wind conditions.
Precise and intelligible feedback is provided by the LM5’s 3-line system. The 3 line design provides the optimum balance between ease of takeoff, usability in active air, overall weight / size, and comfort / performance. Launching the LM5 is simple. Low weight and a 3 line configuration allow for easy inflation and predictable behaviour on the ground, even from the tightest spots in difficult conditions. Overall, it is significantly easier to handle than a 2 line design. Likewise, in the air the wing’s character is predictable, and it is easy to keep open in turbulent air using traditional techniques. Finally, at lower speeds and near-stall flying, the LM5 performs brilliantly for a wing of its class, making it suitable for the tightest of backcountry landing areas and technical top-landings.
The LM5 is suitable for highly experienced and competent XC pilots who spend more than 100 hours per year in thermal conditions. It is a high performance paraglider that needs to be flown with the full attention that such a wing deserves. An LM5 pilot must have a solid understanding of best practices for recovery from incidents in flight.
We’ve designed the LM5 to carry you through the most intense vol-biv adventures imaginable, from the highest peaks of the Himalaya to the deepest corners of the Sierra. We really look forward to your feedback on this exciting new wing, and most of all we want to hear about your adventures with it, so please send us news of your flights. Cheers from all the Team.
