Sylvestre Campe

Sylvestre Campe has been a tireless explorer for over three decades, filming and collecting stories that brim with adventure, nature and culture. As a cinematographer and producer, he has worked in over 120 countries, journeying from the north pole to the south pole, from the hearts of jungles to inhospitable deserts, from the depths of oceans to the tallest peaks, perpetually in search of the unknown and the astounding.

Sylvestre has always believed that the scope and the magnificence of our planet is best captured through aerial cinematography. To that end, he seized every opportunity to film from helicopters, ultralights and high-wing planes without doors. Fate would have it that his brother Calyxte’s brother-in-law is Gilo Cardozo, the founder of Parajet. Paramotoring was love at first sight for Sylvestre because of its two-fold nimbleness. Once disassembled, a paramotor can fit into a suitcase, making it an ideal match for his roving life style. In the air, it lends itself to subtle maneuvers while offering a wide range of speed and altitude.

Where do you live?

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

What year, and how old were you when you started flying?

I started flying in 2014. I was 46 years old…. Hard to remember as flying seems to have always been part of my life

Did a family member introduce you to paragliding?

My brother’s brother in law is Gilo Cardoso, founder of Parajet. I saw the paramotor, love at first sight, as a perfect tool for my filming aerials I so much need for the TV series I produce

What other passions do you have, or activities do you enjoy?

My greatest passion, apart from my family, are horses. Being a filmmaker specialized in expeditions I end up doing anything from diving to climbing, whatever is needed to get the story told

Why is flying important to you, and what does flying mean to you?

I have been traveling the world for past years filming. Aerial footage has always been considered very precious and telling. Well, now I got my own aircraft that fits into two suitcases. I take it with me to all my film missions.

Flying  accomplishments:

My whole life has been around filmmaking. I was raised on a sailing vessel, sailing around the World with all family, my father (also a filmmaker), my tree siblings and a tutor. The trip lasted 7 years. I have travelled ever since, through seven continents…

Do you have any goals, dreams or plans for the next 1-2 years that you want to share?

I would love to sail the North West Passage, take my paramotor and diving equipment along
