Kari News >> Snowkiting in Stavanger
Stavanger is normally good for kite surfing, but this winter its also perfect for snow kiting
This winter I have been to France and Italy competing and taking photos. The conditions in France (SKM) were good, but light wind and Italy (WC) was a iced over lake. The place I liked most was Etna, but I was really unlucky with the conditions here. When it was sunny the wind was not there. I hope to go back there one day, maybe next year Stefano??
The best place this season was my home town Stavanger, Norway. (Stavanger, the town in Norway where there is normally no snow, has been cowered with snow and minus degrees. Its been 52 years since we had thess conditions here and its amazing for kiting. For sure all the other people are complaining about the snow, but I just have to say; If this will be a normal winter every year, Stavanger would be a paradise to live in, I just love it J like the Ozone team always say
Normally Stavanger is a summer city with sandy beaches and nice conditions for kiting in the water all year around (of course cold, but we are Vikings). This winter the snow has been there for almost 2 months already. I have been kiting on the beach and on the farmers fields. Powder and good wind, what more do I want outside my window. It also looks like the snow will not give up yet, I just hope it will come more.
I am now in Tarifa training waves and racing. It’s cold but nice to be in the water again. Tarifa has the same temperature that Norway normally has in the winter. If you are planning a trip here, bring a warm neoprene and a warm hat: http://kariland.com/?cat=5
I will stay here to the 6th of March and then go back home. Let’s hope when I will be back in Norway that I will land at Sola airport in powder
