DAY 7

Day 7 - Polar bear scare

We woke up with a complete startle at 5am when one of the flares on the trip wires around our tent went off. Charlie yelled, `Bear`, David screamed out `Oi` and the three of us got the most incredible shock. Dan? Dan slept through the whole thing. By the time we had got out of our sleeping bags, got dressed, put our jackets and boots on and made it outside with the guns, we didn`t find a thing, no bear in sight. We can safely say, however, that it frightened the hell out of us and was a good, albeit sobering shock to reality. Think we will be doing some practice runs at getting up, putting our gear on and charging out of the tent fully armed, to seriously improve our reaction time!

After our rather interesting start to the morning, we unfortunately had bad weather all day. The storm confined us to our tents for the day, though we did make it out for an all important snow fight and to build an emergency snow cave, the latter mainly out of boredom than any strictly necessary safety precautions.

We would like to say a big thank you to you all for your kind messages of good luck and encouragement on the site. Thanks for thinking of us!

We are hoping for a rather more uneventful start to tomorrow morning and praying, to the storm gods this time, to move on the bad weather.

Regards
