Jack Elston >> Lode kite festival 9th – 11th April
This news piece has not yet been translated but will be soon, thank you for your patience. On an chilly Friday morning myself, Floyd and Ash went for a road trip to Lode in Cambridge to attend ‘The Jam’ which was being held in an old secret spot rode by legendary Ozone rider Butch and as you can imagine we all couldn’t wait to ride this spot. This event wasn’t like any other event, it was an invite only event where everyone attending could just ride together and jam and not have to worry about being judged and having pressure on them to do certain tricks, this event was just a pure free ride session and man it rocked!
Myself, Floyd and Ash along with Adam Toms, Shawn Rawlinson and Buggy Paul set off around about 10am, we arrived at the spot about 3pm met by Mikey and about 3mph of wind but that didn’t stop us getting a kite out and the 7m C4 was the perfect tool, being light and fast it proved to be great fun in light wind just for practicing some dangle passes. Once we were set up and sausages where on the go, a few familiar faces started to turn up. When it got dark some wind came through and we had a little night fly which was nice but very sketch as you couldn’t see the ditches.
We woke up the next day to beautiful blue sky’s and hot weather but no wind so I was straight away appointed to ice cream duty. After some ice-cream and some exotic cheeses we set up our kites and made the most of the weather and towards the end of the day the wind had picked up to about 10mph which was good enough to have a ride around and explore the massive spot. Once the sun set we headed back and cracked open a few cans which proved to be too much for Adam and he needed to be shrink wrapped.
The next day we were met by the same weather as the day before but this time with 20+ mph of wind and as you can imagine me and the boys wasted no time in kitting up and my weapon of choice was my 11m custom Sport+, Ash’s was his 9m custom Sport+ and Floyd his 9m Frenzy FYX, with some difficult conditions we gave it our best shot, providing some locals with a good show with smooth big airs and grabs off the newly constructed ramp built by the crew. After a long day and some rough packing away we were off home battered and bruised after a sick days riding.
Many thanks to the continued support of our sponsors www.flyozone.com and www.trampaboards.com, other than that keep it real and fly safe.
