SuKay back on board with Instinct Edge 11m

This news piece has not yet been translated but will be soon, thank you for your patience.

Hi Guys

At last it feels like my joints are starting to get oiled and I’m getting back into the kitesurfing swing of things – Not long till Cindy Mosey Island Odyssey in Tonga!

Today (13 September ‘07) was the first true Spring Sea breeze that came in at about 12 knots here in Ruakaka.  Beautiful flat-water conditions at the One Tree Point sandbar, perfect for getting the confidence back into doing kiteloops, downloops and powered landings to surface passes.  This was my 4th Session on the 11m Edge and I’m very impressed with the kite’s upwind ability, lift and turning response in these light wind conditions.  The combination of this kite and my Decay Glock 130 x 41.5 cm board – light weight full carbon lay up - gets me out no problem as soon as there’s a bit of a breeze.

On the other end of the scale - I found the top end of my 11m Edge on Sunday with a session at Ruakaka River Mouth.  The conditions were not great with 25knots building to 30 by the end of the session and rain and grey skies, but there was a bit of a swell on the bar and a bit of flat water in the river.  The 11m Edge jumps big – highest I have ever gone!  This time I was out on my Decay Katana 130 x 38.5 cm board with full Carbon lay up.  This combo meant that I was not intimidated by the kite when I got overpowered.

When the wind picked up at the end I just rode to our launch spot on the beach, changed my leash from suicide to the correct place and unhooked.  The kite floated down and sat on the beach facing into the wind beautifully giving me the opportunity to catch a fellow riders kite.

I loved my ’06 Instinct, but the 11m Edge seems to have all the pluses of the ’06, without those couple of things I battled with – like self landing!

Come on SUMMER!

Happy Kiting, Su
